Shame that anyone running Windows 10 Home edition is going to lose the option of choosing whether or not to install updates as soon as they are released. :-\  I know many people do but from Windows 10 onwards anyone with a Home edition will have to whether they like it or not. :-X  Just glad I rebuilt my laptop with a spare Pro edition licence when I first purchased it, at least I will be able to continue choosing when to install updates. ;D

Although the ambiguous statement that MS made regarding updates for Home Edition (which actually said they would be automatically available, not automatically installed)  has been amended to state that it was made for the pre release Windows 10, and are "subject to change". So we are none the wiser on how updates will be applied in the released Home Edition.

I've been running the Win10 preview on my 6 year old laptop for quite a while now, and it runs well and its a bit faster than Win7.
I'll upgrade my laptop fully when Win10 comes out but I'll probably wait 6 months before upgrading my primary desktop pc.

Might be a silly question , but can I reverse/revert back to 7 if I am not happy? What is required to do so if I choose?

Might be a silly question , . . .

Well if it is, here's another. Can it be dual booted wth 7, 8, 8.1 ? Sort of try before you buy disrupt your system.

Yes & No ... it's unlikely that the free version will as it appears to check for the presence of a valid version of W7 or W8 however as with any other version of Windows buying the commercial product will allow you to do this.

According to this article - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fez/ - the Windows 10 alert for Windows 7 users is an optional update, but a recommended update for Windows 8.  So if you have Windows 7, you'll need to actually tells Windows Update to install it. ;)

It seems there's an update K3035583 that needs to be downloaded before one gets the message.  I've checked all the updates so far this year and I've not got that one yet.  I guess they're updating gradually, so as not to mess up the system.

I disabled all the windows 10 upgrade notifications. Im very happy with win 7, and dont need the strange hybrid interface of tablet/desktop which they are trying to force on people.

Hi, just been reading all the posts here re windows 10,I learn a lot from rootschatters comments.

I have Windows 7 and have got the Windows 10 reminder.

Because I'm technically pretty hopeless,I'm quite worried about how the upgrade will eventually successfully install on my PC - just what action will be required from me?
I'm scared stiff at the prospect of messing up and ending up with nothing working properly.

Currently my PC is set for Windows to automatically update - will Windows 10 upgrade automatically in the same way once I have downloaded it?

Also, I like to backup all my files/docs/photos onto a Seagate external hard drive but I'm concerned that it might not be compatible with Windows 10 - or will it still work o.k ?

grateful for any helpful comments.
