William Ross 1868-1913 - SENGHENNYDD MINING EXPLOSION
« on: Monday 01 June 15 21:21 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am related to William Ross who was killed in the Senghennydd mine explosion in Oct 1913. I know all the details of the family history of the explosion, and the tragic impact on the family. I AM NOW TRYING TO LOCATE HIS PARENTS. I'M STRUGGLING. I KNOW HE WAS SCOTTISH. I am wondering if anybody has come across him that can help me? As I've got far back on his Wife's side and hit a stumbling block. I ask out of respect, Diolch, Kelly

Are we talking about a William Ross who apparently married an Elizabeth Ann "Hardwidge" in the Pontypridd District in 1890?

I can only suggest then that the first port of call to further your research is to obtain a copy of that marriage certificate.

there were 4 victims with the surname Ross, but 3 with the same address

Robert Ross 31
William Ross 45
William John Ross 22
all of 22 Coronation Terrace, Senghenydd. The other Ross was Peter Ronald aged 20 of 5 Coronation Terrace, so he may be related as well.
Have you looked up William on the 1911 census? We cannot do that for you because of copyright issues.

Thank you, yes they are all sadly related. William, William J and Peter Donald and Robert Ross were all killed in the explosion. It was very sad to uncover that story. I never knew. Thank you for your help. Kelly

There was a lady on here, and I can not find the posting or thread. She was a relation of the Hardwidge family and enquiring about William Ross also. In terms of Burial??
If she sees this post, I'd love to get in contact to compare family research. I can not recall the ladies username. We are family!! I am related to this person as my Grandmother was Edith Hill and my Great-grandmother was Ellen Ross. This is via my late mothers family (maternal side).
