John Rowlinson of Lancashire
« on: Wednesday 03 June 15 12:30 BST (UK) »
My 3 x great grandfather was John Rowlinson.  On his daughter Jane's marriage certificate his occupation is given as Umbrella Maker.  Jane was born 1828-1830 and married John Binns Hayes on 10 December 1849 in Manchester Cathedral.  The family lived in Manchester where Jane was born. That is all I know about John and I seem to have hit a brick wall as I have not been able to find his birth, marriage or death records. I have searched Ancestry, FindMyPast and FreeBMD but with no success and cannot find him in directories.  Can anyone help?  Thank you in advance.

A John RAWLINSON, aged 21, married a Sarah Nicholls, aged 23 in Eccles on 10 5 1819.

Might be a possibility. See if this couple had any other children from 1819 onwards maybe.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Then there's a John Rawlinson marrying a Sarah Edge in Eccles in 1826 -- sadly no occupation is shown though.

See Lancs OPC. as mentioned in a previous post.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I note that Jane's middle name is Allen and wonder if this is a clue.  A family name somewhere, perhaps?

Thanks for the replies. I have searched again and found a marriage for John Rowlinson, widower, age 51, an Umbrella Maker, to Ellen Hall, 46, widow on 29 July 1860.  So John was born c1809.  His father is given as Richard Rowlinson, Roper.

This was on Ancestry in Mancheser Marriages and Banns 1754 - 1930.  I thought I had exhausted Ancestry!

Still need to find his first marriage and birth and death record.

I found a John and Sarah R(o/a)wlinson on the 1841 census with children Jane, Eliza and Richard, in Manchester, but that John was a hairdresser.  Seems a bit of a coincidence though.

Edited to say: Just looked at that again and that John is 45, so ~10yrs older than your John.
