Burgher Church Duns aka Duns West Church
« on: Wednesday 03 June 15 14:59 BST (UK) »
Hi all, i am trying to research a bit into this church as i was to try to delve further back on my family tree.

I found this about that church.

"Around 1763 the ‘Burghers’ began services in Duns riding school. In 1770 they built a church next door and obtained their first minister."

Firstly on my OPRs that i have found for children born between 1798 - 1814, the first 3 born up until 1805 aren't listed as being in the burgher congregation..

Would anyone know if the earlier ones could have been omissions? In that they were part of a Burgher church and were christened there or in fact they weren't and belonged to another church?

Also prior to 1763 - 1770 what church could they have belonged to??

I think maybe the Duns parish church??

I saw this about the church and maybe this might be a reason to move to the different church?

"In 1739 the selection of Rev Roger Moodie as the new minister was so unpopular that his ordination had to be protected by a company of dragoons." !!

Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Hi

(I'm reading your postings in reverse order, so have already commented on a newer one!)

The Duns West Church is now apparently two houses with the addresses 13 and 14, Clouds. See:
