I then also have the following
TWO marriages:
28 June 1868 St. Peter, Everton
Name Age Cond. Rank/Prof Res. Father Father Prof
Robert McAdam (Aged 26) Bach Marine Stoker 41 Edinburgh St James McAdam Farm Lab
Christina Roberts (Aged 27)Wid 18 Edinburgh St Mathew Johnston Stone Mason
15 Apr 1861, St. David, L'pool, Lancs Name Age Cond. Rank/Prof Res. Father Father Prof
John Roberts Full Bachelor Fireman L'pool Robert Roberts Porter
Christina Johnston Full Spinster - L'pool Mathew Johnston Stone Mason
There are four apparent births/baptisms arising from this Roberts/Johnston marriage recorded in L'pool, with baptisms relating to children named John and Sarah that appear to be the same John and Sarah that are down as John and Sarah McAdam on the 1871 Census return headed by Robert McAdam.
There are also a few deaths recorded for John Roberts' within the L'pool area between 1861 and 1868.
Between 1868 and 1871 I have located a number of Crew Lists for Glasgow-registered ships that have a Robert McAdam, who is a Fireman, (DOB c. 1843), with place of birth stated as Wigton, Scotland, who sailed aboard the 'Russia' (Official No. 58132) and the signatures on each of these crew list agreement appears to be the same as the signature on the 1868 McAdam/Roberts marriage, leading me to believe it is the same man.
My research now switches to Scotland. Having searched the available Scottish vital records, there are two birth records for a Robert McAdam:
Date Name Parents Ref Reg
06/06/1841 McAdam Robert James McAdam/Marion Clement FR836 (FR836) M Ochiltree/Ayr
15/08/1842 McAdam Robert James McAdam/Marion Clement FR421 (FR421) M Penninghame/ Wigtown
Then there's a preceding marriage between a James McAdam and a Marion Clement as follows:
21/07/1835 James McAdam and Marion Clement /883 (FR883) M OCHILTREE /AYR
It would appear that the Robert born in Ochiltree in 1841 has died and a second son born the following year has been named after him. I have also located a couple of other likely baptisms of children born to a James and Marion McAdam, but in different places, each one tying in with the following family, who appear here on the 1861 Scotland Census:
1861 Midkelton Dairy House, Kelton, Kirkcudbrightshire
Name Rel Status Gen Age Birth Occ Birth place
James McAdam Head M M 50 1811 DairyMan, Carsphairn,Kirkcudbrightshire,
Marion McAdam Dau Un F 16 1845 Scholar Wigtownshire, Scot

And that's it thus far!
