While researching Craigdam I came across the following article, under the heading, "Bon-Accord Gossip" in the "Aberdeen Evening Express" dated Tuesday, 24th April, 1951. Hope it's of interest.
"At the little country church of Craigdam, near Old Meldrum, next Sunday the Rothnie family, long established in the farming community of the district, will have their proud day. A special service is being held to celebrate the jubilee of the senior missionary of the Church of Scotland overseas, the Rev. Douglas A. Rothnie of Jamaica, who was born at the farm of Nethertulloch near Old Meldrum. Present will be his three brothers. Two of them, Mr John Rothnie of Raitshill Farm, and Mr James Rothnie, senior, of Caulhame Farm, are elders of Craigdam Church. The third brother, Mr Andrew Rothnie, will be coming from Aberdeen where he is an elder of Carden Place Church. Among other relatives present will be the missionary's son from Banchory, who recently gave up banking to become a farmer, and his daughter who is married to Rev. D.P. Thompson of the Church of Scotland Home Board. Much loved by the Jamaicans, Mr Rothnie was recently presented with an illuminated address and a motor car by the Presbyterians of Jamaica at a crowded gathering in Kingston, the capital. Mr Rothnie has been 50 years in Lucea, Hanover, in the North-west corner of the island and was described as "The Uncrowned King of Hanover," by the late Sir Edward Denham."
