Briggs/Pearson challenge, help needed please.

Amelia Pearson married William Briggs in Nottinghamshire in 1838. I have the birth certificate of their daughter Sarah Ann born 1840, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, William and daughter Sarah appear in the 1841 census in Mansfield. Amelia is not with them and I cannot find death record for Amelia or a likely candidate for in the 1841 census.

William Briggs seems to disappear after 1841 and daughter Sarah is with her fathers mother (another Sarah) and his sisters in Traffic Street Derby in both the 1851 & 1861 census.

The only reference after to 1841 for William is a notice in the Derby Mercury - Suddenly in London on 28th February, Mr William Briggs of Traffic Street Derby in the 47th year of his age. If this is the William I'm looking where is he in 1851 and 1861 and what became of wife Amelia?

I believe it's likely William was born in Yorkshire about 1815, the son of William and Sarah Briggs,  His occupation in 1841 was Coach Maker and is again given as Coach Maker on daughter Sarah Anne's 1863 marriage certificate. Sarah married in Hull, Yorkshire.

FreeBMD have the death of an Emily Briggs in the June quarter of 1841 in Mansefield. This could be your Amelia as I believe Emily is a common equivalent of Amelia.
Also note that the 1862 death of William in London is reported two months after it happened which suggests that the family were not in immediate contact with him.

I had found the 1841 death for Emily Briggs, Mansfield but discounted it, I was not aware that Emily was an equivalent of Amelia. You've give me something to work with that.

The death notice for William Briggs appeared on 2nd April and his death is documented as 28th February a difference of about one month. I wonder if that was an unusual length of time for a family to be informed of a death that took place so far from home.

Thank you Willsy, the name Whittle isn't known to me. Since you replied I've looked to see if there's a connection I've not made previously but I can't see one.

The burial record fits with the death recorded as Emily Briggs, Mansfield, June Qtr. 1841.
