iMuseum Newspaper Archive
« on: Thursday 11 June 15 19:33 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have a subscription for the Newspaper Archive at the imuseum? If so, I am wondering if it would be ok to ask if they would check a Probate report for me? I want to know how much my 3x great grandmother's "estate" was worth. Family story is that she owned a substantial hotel. I think  for a while she ran a common lodging house. It is one of those stories that grew and grew! Thank you.

Can you post her details?

I can get to the iMuseum next week, and there is no charge if you are looking while physically in the iMuseum!

It's Senior TT Race Day tomorrow - a Bank Holiday, so the museum will be closed.
I'm busy Saturday; and the iMuseum is next open on Wednesday.

Thank you that is extremely kind of you. I do not want to put anyone out. I have just discovered they were caught up with Dumbells Bank which explains a few mysteries. Enjoy the Bank Holiday!

Since finding out about Dumbells I have had another look at the archive. Just the snippets show that Mary Magee's family suffered during the crisis. I can even see details of her son's property. So, I am going to buy a permit! Thank you for your kind offer I greatly appreciate it.

Yes, thank you. That is what I found yesterday evening. Mary Magee wrote her Will just before William was declared bankrupt. She left everything to his wife. So, she was obviously trying to protect as much as she could. From what I have read so far it must have been awful. Will have to go through newspapers and make a list. Apart from the "hotel" she was supposed to have kept a jar of money tied to the underneath of a table! When small my great grandfather he used to hide under the table.
