Oh I've just found a list of when censuses were taken 1881 was Sunday 5 April, 1901 was Sunday 31 March which would mean he was born between 1 and 4 April. . . . I think haha

If I'm correct then I think my David is the David Henry Cartwright of 1862 that you mentioned

Yeah that's why I'm thinking my David is David Henry as his birth is listed as apr/may/jun quarter 1862

For info.

The birth entries on FreeBMD for all the David Cartwright’s are also listed on West Midlands BMD (although no mmn are given) http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk/index.php

I don’t know if you ring the RO whether they would check the three birth entries for you to see if any of their fathers name is Samuel or whether you would have to purchase each of the certificates.

All registers are at Dudley Register Office

1861 sub district Kingswinford         David Cartwright reference KIN/058/410
1862     ‘’     ‘’              ‘’                   David H Cartwright   ''         KIN/061/313
1863    ‘’      ‘’     Stourbridge (STO) David Cartwright      ''         STO/043/121

This looks to be the address & telephone number of the registry office in Dudley

1881 Stourbridge Workhouse there are a number of Cartwrights there

this might be of interest
http://www.staffsnameindexes.org.uk/StartPage.aspx?Mode=Details&Index=E

Stourbridge, 1842-1846, 1870-1873, 1886-1892(D), 1889-1892(A).
The Stourbridge Union included parishes in both Worcestershire and Staffordshire.
Records held at Staffordshire Record Office.

Not sure if this is the same David Cartwright born 1861
Stourbridge Union Admisson & discharge date 5th Dec 1870

Hope you get a result  :)

I amended my post and added the reference numbers for each of the birth entries.

I forgot to mention I looked at marriages on WestMidlands BMD (Dudley Register Office)  from 1837 – 1863 for a Samuel Cartwright – there are quite a few

Once you locate the correct b/c for your David Cartwright hopefully one of those marriages maybe the correct one.
