I wonder if he's this one in 1871:
RG10; Piece: 3027; Folio: 111; Page: 6
It looks like the enumerator has crossed out all of the POB's & replaced them with Kingswinford. In this case what's crossed out is Brierley Hill.

This is that family in 1861 - maybe to eliminate them

I've found David living with Mary Beddall and William Cook in 1871. It states Mary as head and David as grandson

Oh no! I've just looked at the one I think you've listed, Jim, which states David Cartwright as an orphan, that's proper choked me up. Is there anyway I can find out for definite?

If you are referring to this one it states Grandson, not orphan

He may only have been staying overnight. An appearance on census at an address does not always mean that is where they live.
