Finding the parents of Annie Elizabeth Savory
« on: Sunday 14 June 15 09:28 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Wonder if you could help me find out who the parents of Annie Elizabeth Savory are?
Annie Elizabeth was born in Sheffield in 1851 all census records just say Sheffield, i first her on the 1881 census aged 24
she is listed as living with her husband John Savory b1852 Warrington & her 4 children, William, John, David & Frances, They are living at court 9 5 house Smithfield. I can find no record of marriage & i am guessing that seeing as William was 8 here that Annie would only have been around 16 at the time of his birth making it unlikely that they legally married.
I'm fairly sure i picked her up on the 1891 census living in 3 house 2 court apple st, little confused as she's had another child called william, same address in 1901.
I make out that she had 8 children?? william 1873, John 1875 (listed as imbecile) David 1877, Frances 1878,Herbert 1882, William 1885, Peter 1888, Francis 1896. On the 1911 census she listed 9 children 4 whom had died. She was living at 1/6 Kelham St.
The Savory name seems to be spelt many different ways & it appears that the Savory's were most unsavory!
Hope you can help

Buying just 1 birth certificate of one of her children would give you her maiden name?

Thank you, i was hoping not to go down that route having just spent £60 on TNA records! :-(  Family history can be an expensive hobby!

In 1901 the family has a couple called Mary and and Frederick Thwaites visiting them.
In 1881 there are members of the Savery family (William 24 and Albert 18 transcribed as Savvery) visiting the Thwaites family.  I think it is a very good gamble that Mary Ann is Annie Elizabeth's sister.  Finding the marriage to Frederick Thwaites could give you her maiden name.

Names of deceased children were often reused for the next born after the death.
The name William is likely to be a family name, such as the Father or Grandfather

Good luck with your research

Oh that's a shame :(
Looks like you need a birth certificate, then.
