The John Roughton born Sedgeley living Kingswinford in 1861 married Ellen Edwards in Dudley on 28 May 1855. Now found on Freereg. John is a miner and his father is named as Samuel, also a miner.
I can't find any actual image to confirm that it has been transcribed correctly. However Freereg is done by volunteers (not the commercial pressure of some other sites) so I doubt that there is likely to be a mistake. Other possibility is that he got confused and gave wrong information to vicar.
Ancestry has a baptism for John Wroughton at Sedgeley on 29 Jul 1827, parents John and Mary.
John and Mary had several children baptised at Sedgeley over the range 1820 to 1835, as Wroughton / Roughton and Rotton. One was Samuel and one was Joshua. John jnr called one child Joshua. Did he confuse his brother's name with his father's when giving information for the marriage record?
