My Grandparents left Hawick in 1919 and their name was Dempster. My Grandmother's maiden name was McLaren.  My Grandfather's first name was Adam and my Grandmother's was Martha or Mary.
So I reckon perhaps 1870/80's?

Hi marymoira,

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk have a record for Adam Dempster and Martha Mclaren's marriage, 1902 Wilton, Roxburgh.  If you download the certificate it will give you their respective parents.
