Hi, I'm trying to trace my family tree. I'm looking for any family who are related to my nanna Elisabeth Cryer, born in withington workhouse, 10th Sept 1891. Her mother, (my great grandmother) was called Mary Ellen cryer a weaver of openshaw Manchester. My nanna was left in the workhouse and never saw or heard from her mother again. I've been told by my aunt that my nanna knew her dad, he was called Edward Jones, but he couldn't look after her but still saw her when he could.
My nanna married my granddad, Edward O'Neill 6th June 1914 and Had 13 children, my dad Raymond being the 11th born.
I'm looking for anyone who my be related to my nanna, or know any details of my great grandmother. Her story has always saddened me, being left in a workhouse, with no family. If anyone could help I will be very grateful.  :)

Hello, and welcome to RoostChat!

If you haven't already done so, a good way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it under "Your Tools" at the bottom of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!

Hi donna,

http://search.findmypast.co.uk hold the records for Manchester Workhouses.  Looking at the indexes there are 4 available records that may shed further light:

Ellen Cryer Admission/Discharge date 1898
Mary E Cryer ditto 1897
Mary Ellen Cryer (2 records) ditto 1897

findmypast is a subscription site but free access is available at most local libraries.

Hope this helps, brigau
