Albert Booth
« on: Tuesday 23 June 15 13:43 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am a new visitor to this 'chat'. I am trying to find any information regarding Albert Ernest Booth, born 1887 and lived in Birmingham in 1914. He married Florence Plimmer at Birmingham registrar office in September 1914 and then went off to fight. His father is listed as William Henry Booth who was deceased in 1914. He was a tube drawer as was his father. I have searched the Worcester Regiment which I was led to believe he joined. I cannot find any military death etc for this man. Any help would be great.

Hi Joylanc

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

There was an Albert  Ernest BOOTH in the  Worcester Regiment, Private #9703, 1st Battalion, who sadly didn't make it and was killed in action 10 March 1915 at Flanders.
http://www.cwgc.org/

But, a Register of Soldier's Effects lists this soldier's  widow as Hannah  and they had 1 child.
It lists her as 'Wid  Hannah', and then again (I think in notes about her pension) as 'Wid Hannah GIBBS' - but I think this is her 2nd married name and that she probably remarried in Birmingham in 1916.

Cheers

I see you have been down this road, and already know about the soldier who died 1915, his entry in the Effects register, etc:

And there is compelling suggestion that the Ernest Albert BOOTH age 22, father named William John,   who married Hannah SHAW in 1908 in Birmingham:

....is the same Albert Ernest BOOTH, b abt 1887, father William Henry who married Florence N PLIMMER in 1914. That is to say, possibly he married Florence whilst Hannah was definitely still alive . Looks very like Florence N. remarried in 1918 under her maiden name.

Have you considered obtaining the marriage certificate of the BOOTH / SHAW marriage to compare signatures perhaps, or look for other clues to prove or disprove the bigamy theory?

Cheers

The more I think about this the more I am inclined to think you are right. My grandmother did marry in 1918 under her maiden name Plimmer and this has been a mystery. She was pregnant when she married Albert and her sons birth certificate is also full of lies and discrepancies. He was sent to Canada as a British Home Child when he was 5 years old. Thanks for all the help.
