Finding my Adopted Sister and Brother West Midlands/Berkshire
« on: Tuesday 23 June 15 14:59 BST (UK) »
Hi, I've been looking for about 5 years to find my Sister and Brother, but can't get any further than she was taken to a place called Theale my brother I have no idea as he was taken from my mother at birth.Hospital would have been in the Birmingham or Walsall area ? Which doesn't help..
My Sister from what I remember was adopted back in 1965, at the same time, myself and half sister were moved to the midlands and placed in care, by my mum.
I have since found out that she had another Son ( my brother ) in or around 1970, I was still in care at that point, and the boy was taken from her at birth, and adopted out.
I need help please with how I can go forward and find some answers, my birth mother is of no help.

thank you  :)

Hi Kiwi,

Welcome to Rootschat,

Here on Rootschat we don't look for people that may still be living.

Because they have both been adopted you will need an Intermediary to look for them.

Here are some links that may help you.

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk/default.htm

By the way Theale is in Berkshire.
Bramwell -  Derbyshire and Bolton
Pottinger -  Gloucestershire, Berkshire
James- Gloucestershire
Rawley, Wheeler - Middlesex
Nicholls, Nichols -  Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire
Lee, Porter - Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire
Bowers, Coxall, Coe, Dawkins, Hawkins, Horspoole, Rule - Cambridgeshire
Stoughton - Bedfordshire
Stewart - Stirlingshire,  Glasgow and Edingburgh
Tulloch - Orkney Islands
Liddell - Stirlingshire, Lanarkshire
Tulloch, Wilson, Stevenson, Baxter, Muir, Boag - Scotland

So sorry you've had no luck so far but rootschat is a forum for tracing deceased ancestors, so not much help to you in your quest. We cannot discuss potentially living people here.  There is however lots of help available on other sites, some free, others fee paying.  Try googling things like 'finding an adopted sibling' etc.

Have you registered with the Adoption Contacts Register? https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

The Salvation Army also have a people finding service and offer general tips and support:
http://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/Contact-Us-Family-Tracing

Hope this helps

From the Salvation Army's (U.K.) FAQ page-

Who is not included in the tracing programme?
We are not able to become involved in searches where adoption has taken place, due to current UK legislation.
• We cannot look for children under 18 years of age, or other 'vulnerable' missing people where a physical search or police involvement
 would be more appropriate.
• We do not look for 'possible' relatives or friends and do not carry out family history enquiries.
• We do not look for relatives for estate, legal or other business purposes.
