Norman Claude Scobie b. 1893 Victoria,Australia
« on: Wednesday 24 June 15 11:52 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone add any information about Norman Claude Scobie in his later life?  He apparently died in  Jersey Channel Isles in 1986. My interest is the time around the 1960's when he supposedly married a relation of mine!

Hi Pat1652 and welcome to rootschat,

There is this article (and quite a few others) on Trove about him living in Hampshire in 1947 as a racehorse trainer

Hi yes I did know these 2 pieces of information, I really want to know HOW/WHY he happened to marry my relation in Bourne,Lincolnshire in 1962......don't know anything about this marriage, no one here to ask now, she died locally in 1985 and HE died 1986 in Jersey, Channel Isles..........
My relation wasn't a 'celebrity' wife like he had before!
Curious.........
Pat

So, you are saying that he married for a third time to Elsie M GRIBBLE in 1962?

How do you know this is Norman Claude SCOBIE the marriage index does not show a middle name or initial.

Do you know if he divorced his second wife? There is more than one Norman SCOBIE floating around.

You do realise that he was married twice before.
His first wife was Australian, they divorced, she returned to Australia & died in 1945.
Second wife died 1985 in the UK & he was still at the same address as her.

I'm not convinced that Norman Claude SCOBIE married your relative unless you have some proof :-\
Do you have the marriage certificate? This would have his age, status, etc., on it.

Thank you I bow to your greater knowledge....this is what I need, someone to tell me I'm on the wrong track.  I did not research this myself another Ancestry member gave me a little nudge that way. I have always been very sceptical about this as I couldn't think how their paths would cross. No family her side to talk to.
Perhaps I might invest in a marriage certificate.
