Trying to locate where paternal grandfather lived - Trevor Wignall
« on: Wednesday 24 June 15 13:44 BST (UK) »
Hi there
The only details I have are that Trevor Wignall worked in Cromwell Road in Ellesmere Port 1943-46 and was only around for the first 2 years after my father was born (1944). He would have been born between 1908-1915 so it's highly unlikely that he's still alive. He may have children of his own from a marriage which would mean that possibly my father would have half-brothers or half-sisters. Just really need to know what happened to him.
Thanks

Welcome to RootsChat
According to the England & Wales birth indexes there is no birth for a Trevor Wignall registered at that time, Trevor could have been a middle name.

Can't see a death either except one which gives a DOB of 1882.

Thanks both
Do you think there is a way to see if a 'Wignall' lived or worked in the Ellesmere Port area at that time?
Regards

There were no Electoral Rolls during the war which would have been your best bet.

I presume that Trevor was only on Merseyside because of WW2 - if he wasn't in the troops could it be because he was too old ?....making him born earlier than you think ?...
could he have been Trevor C Wignall ??
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV8J-TWN2     do you know whether he was married in 1942 - 1946 ?
Ellesmere Port has a huge Oil Refinery - I wonder if he may have had an important job in the Refinery ? There were a huge amount of Americans in the area during WW2 because of  Burtonwood USA base - could he have been an American by birth ??

Hello,

Do you have your father's birth certificate? Is Trevor named as father on that certificate?

Hi all
Thanks for your responses. I know this is vague and I am still attempting to gain information from my father and Great Aunt! Unfortunately, my Grandmother passed away in 2000. I understand that when my father was about two years of age (circa 1946), he was told by my Great-Grandfather to 'leave and never come back.' From what I know is that he was married already and my father was born 'out of wedlock.' Trevor's name is not on my father's birth certificate. I have tried to find a list of businesses that where in Cromwell Road, Ellesmere Port (where I have heard he was working) during the war, but without success. I have also heard that he was from either Yorkshire or Leicestershire (Loughborough) This may not be true!! Trevor was also supposed to be older than my Grandmother and she was born in 1913.
I think that's all I have up-to-now!
Thanks
Steve
