Tracing paternal grandfather Eastment.
« on: Wednesday 24 June 15 15:46 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace information on my paternal grandfather, William Eastment Born 1879 at Wiveliscombe Somerset, the 1911 census entry shows him living at 44 Cheltenham Terrace Bridgend Glamorgan aged 32yrs. He lived there with his wife Edith aged 25yrs, daughter Dorothy age 2 and son William age 1 at the time of census. We have found records of Edith Eastment nee Wozencroft died in 1942 in Bridgend district and buried at St David's Church Laleston Bridgend. We are looking for any records for William Eastment Born 1879 later than the census of 1911, we cannot find any death recorded for him. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, we have found a few William Eastment's from that region of Somerset, but like this one the age doesn't match, we know that he and his family moved from Wiveliscombe to Bridgend Glamorganshire, we know his wife and all his children lived and died in South Wales, we believe that he also stayed in South Wales.

Yes you're probably right and he died in Wales - do you know if his wife was a widow when she died?

Have you got him on earlier census to confirm his age?

The only William Eastment in Bridgend as I expect you've seen was in 1935 age 74  - unless the age is wrong  :(

Was  Edith Eastment nee Wozencroft described as a wife or a widow at her death?
Have you accessed electoral rolls for that death address or the addresses at the (Late 1911) , 1916 & 1920 kids who look to be "theirs" ?

There is a funeral announcement in Taunton Courier dated 1st January 1936:

Death after illness of a William Eastment age 48, so age wrong, but says he had been a miner in South Wales for twenty years before returning back to Somerset three years previously, to live with his sister and brother inlaw, Mr and Mrs E Salter. Other people at Mr Fred Eastment, brother. Sisters: Mrs J Lock and Mrs C May. Miss M Eastment, niece and Mr A lock, nephew.

That's interesting but his wife hadn't died yet so why would he have returned to Somerset to live with his sister?

I wonder if this was a different man  :-\  Hopefully the relatives will help.  No widow or children mentioned is there.

No, there's no mention of wife or children jut says that he had been unwell for the past three years but that it was only in the previous three weeks that his illness had took a serious turn. Funeral was at St Andrews Church, I presume Wiveliscombe as the headind states Wiveliscombe.
