How do i trace my great grandfather's death record
« on: Thursday 25 June 15 13:20 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my great grandfather's family... I am an only child with as I understand no relatives on this side of the family.... My grandmother was Pamela Clayton nee Wood, born Jan 1906, Married January 1921, Died 1977 Wallasey Merseyside.. I am hoping to find out something about her father, Ben Wood, date of birth not known, lived in Epworth Lincolnshire, occupation, collier, was deceased when my grandmother married in 1921.... Where do I begin to try and find out about him... My feelings are that he may have been born in 1880's probably... my grandmother never talked about her dad, I would love to find out about him and maybe I may have family somewhere out there if he had siblings.

This is the marriage reference from www.freebmd.org.uk

Marriages Mar 1921

CLAYTON  Fred S  Wood  Thorne  9c 1763
Wood  Pemela  Clayton  Thorne  9c 1763

Note the spelling of Pemela -is that correct or a mistake ?
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

No Pamela Wood births for Jan 1906 - there's a Pamela Fanny in Lancashire Mar 1905 or Pamela Annie Sep 1906 W Derby.

I think it would be a help getting Pamela's marriage certificate if you so not have it to conform what it says about her father as thinks passed down by word of mouth are not always correct.

Can be ontained from the GRO for £9.25 using the above reference

www.gro.gov.uk

There is a Ben Wood born in 1880 in the Boston registration district who appears to die in 1948 in the Louth registration district in 1948 however in 1901 and 1911 he is not a collier but a blacksmith (could have become a collier later I guess)
