Laurence Lawless c.1827 Wicklow
« on: Thursday 25 June 15 17:01 BST (UK) »
Any other Lawless's in Wicklow who might be related?

My Gt. Gt. Grandfather was Laurence Lawless, a Labourer on his daughter Margaret's marriage certificate when she married in RC Chapel of St. Michael, Kingstown (Rathdown), Co. Dublin, on the 8th  Jan 1882 to Joseph Patrick Pollard.  (I have all of Margaret's childrens birth certificate/Baptisms)

Up until then I assumed that Laurence Lawless was from Dublin but after finding a Laurence Lawless living in Dublin on the 1901 Census at Benburb Street, (Arran Quay, Dublin), and then locating his death Registration I ordered the Death Certificate.  Laurence Lawless died on the 17th April 1901 at the Loughlinstown Workhouse in Rathdown, Co. Dublin.  He was Margaret's Father! Margaret Pollard of 7 Henrietta Street, Dublin was the informant. Margaret gave his age as 74, making his birth year c. 1827.

1901 Dublin Census
Lawrence Lawless, 76, Head, Distillery Labour, RC, Born Co. Wicklow, Married.
Laurence Lawless, 3, Grandson, RC, born c.1898 Dublin City. Who are his parents??????
Thomas Lawless, 72, Boarder, Gardener , RC, Born Co. Wicklow, Married.

Laurence appears to be buried Glasnevin age 70 ,Benburb St ,as it is an extended grave you may find other family in same plot cost 8 to 10 euro to get readout of all buried in this plot but not always guaranteed to be family members.

Have you an address for Margaret at marriage in 1882 and witness names all helps.

Margaret Lawless address was 31 Mulgrave Street on her Marriage Certificate 1882.  Witnesses A. Bambrick and B Connolly.  I've got no idea who they were!

I've got copies of all Lawless Christenings and Marriages on the irishgenealogy.ie/ website too.
I've got plenty of second cousins who still live in Dublin but none of them know on any living Lawless relatives.  Not surprising really with so many having big families back then.

Margaret LAWLESS's church marriage record is on a paid site
It shows her parents as Laurence LAWLESS and Mary (maiden name not given)

[ Witnesses A. Bambrick and B Connolly.  I've got no idea who they were!]
Shown as Arthur BAMBRICK and Brigid CONNOLLY

This is a long shot but there is a baptism in Glendalough Co Wicklow
of a Laurence LAWLESS on Oct 14 1827
His parents are shown as James LAWLESS and Maria LEESY
This couple married on Nov 29 1812 in Glendalough and had several children

Their names vary in spelling on the parish records as LAWLESS/LELIS and LEESY/LEECY/LACY

Laurence LELIS m Mary Anne HOGAN in Wicklow on Jan 12 1846
They had at least seven children one shown as baptised in Wicklow in 1852
and six in Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) up to 1866
including a Margaret on Feb 23 1859 who was described as the twin of Michael

Also a Julia in 1855 which this may be the marriage of LINK

This family, if correct, could have descendents that are still living LAWLESSs!
