family search - MURPHY
« on: Friday 26 June 15 15:51 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm new to this site and havent posted before. I am looking for info on my mothers family who lived at 22 Charlemont Mall Dublin. My mom was born in 1922 to Patrick and Sarah Jane Murphy nee Smith. She was Sarah Jane aka Sally and had a sister Sadie unsure if that's her proper name or nickname. She had 2 brothers Frank and Joe who married a lady who owned a cake shop in Newtown named Eileen in St Chads cathedral Birmingham about 1950s. Sadie and Sally came to Birmingham and married and lived there. I know nothing about my grandparents and have tried other sites with no luck. I know my granddad was a labourer who died about 1954 as I went with my mother to Ireland for the funeral. I know nothing about them where they were from or if they were Irish and there is no family left to ask as my mom never talked about her time in Ireland and I'm guessing she never had much of a life. I know the house was a tenement and you went down steps to go in and it was near the canal I think it was the grand canal. Any help you can give would be most helpful. thank you Marie

There are bound to be people on here who can help you - do you have any information about when Patrick Murphy married Sarah Jane? Or where?
Good luck - and welcome to one of the best places to find out ancestral things! There are some brilliant researchers on here.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

This could be Sarah Jane's birth

If you could give use the order the children were born, the year would be even better even approx, it would help figure out when their parents married.
Unfortunately Murphy is the most common name in Ireland so it can be a bit difficult to tell people apart, so every clue you can give us will help.

There is a possible marriage in 1918 of a Patrick Murphy and Sarah Smyth but you need at least one of the children's birth certs before you even consider it.

You don't need to start a new topic- just continue using this one.

Looking at the electoral rolls there is an exact match to the family at 12 Charlemont Street !

http://databases.dublincity.ie/electoral/advanced.php

To go backwards you need to a birth cert and the marriage cert that Sinann has shown you !
