Innkeepers Stratford on Avon 18/19 century
« on: Saturday 27 June 15 09:22 BST (UK) »
Trying to find Richard Bennett born about 1824, fathervictualler or innkeeper, born 1790-1800 also Richard Bennett.   Problem is that there are a lot of bennetts in Stratford, many called Richard!

Welcome to Rootschat :)

Has the younger Richard been found in the censuses, and if so when and where? Is he the Richard Bennett (28, married, born Stratford) in army barracks in Portsmouth in 1851?

Yes.   We have information on him until 1851, but he disappears after that.  Discharge from Army in 1853.   All references subsequently are a bit iffy.   No death cert before his wife remarries? About 1860, and also no marriage cert for this second marriage.   A Richard Bennett resurfaces in Yorkshire re-marrying ?bigamously.
All help welcomed!

Can you tell us what you do know - identity of wife, details from their marriage including witnesses. Did they have children?

Details of the later possible marriages, too, and the army discharge.

Then we can try to help without having to do lots of work to find info you already have.

Have you seen the 1841 census showing a Richard Bennett 15 in Stratford in the household of a Richard Bennett, 45, baker?
