There's a postcard for sale on Ebay of Hitchin Hill, Hitchin.  Although the house on the hill is not shown, I am as sure as I can be it is a definite for our location.  Brownie point to me - PLEASE!!!!

I suspect the photo was taken at the road fork here, where the markings on the map indicate that the road is in a slight cutting.
