mullen family
« on: Friday 03 July 15 01:09 BST (UK) »
Hi I'm doing family tree. My great grandmother was Alice Mullen born in Ireland don't know which part Alice was born in 1842 her parents were Patrick  and Mary Mullen nee Quinn they were living at number 10 Bailiff Gate Newcastle upon Tyne I was very interested about the pub at Bailiff Gate as I believe there's a book about it and was run by a George Mullen a Irish labourer I have a lot of information about the Mullens as they all lived down near the river Tyne and most of the Irish people all lived along side each other my family came over from Ireland in the 1850s during the Famine which most of the Irish did just would like to know which part of Ireland they came from also there was a Catholic Chapel in Worsick Street where they all went I would be gratefull to share any information.
Kind Regards
Catherine K

If you compare the 1851 census with 1851 it looks like Alice (1861) might be the same child as Alexander (1851). Best to check the originals for spelling of names, sex of child and any other clues.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Have you tried tracing Alices Siblings in later Census to see if they have a more accurate place of birth in Ireland?

1871 we have;
Patrick Mullan, 63, Head, Widr, Cordwainer, born Ireland
Bridget Mullan, 23, Daug, Unm, Boot Closer, born Ireland
Sarah Ann Mullan, 1, Grand/Daug, born Gateshead, Durham

Trish :)

You probably have this  already, but George Mullen s pub was mentioned (very briefly) in the newspapers as the Glassblowers Arms  Bailiff Gate, in 1870.
