property search
« on: Sunday 05 July 15 16:48 BST (UK) »
This is probably an unusual request but wondered if anyone could help.  I'm trying to find the occupants of cottages/houses in 1700 -1800s or earlier.  Address:  Swamp lane (previously known as Low Common) Great Ellingham Norfolk.  There were at least 2 circa 1750. Both were demolished about 15 -20 years ago. .  There is another cottage that has been renovated 'Rose Cottage' (where my cousin lives) but can't find any info on websites.  Ancestry shows a family called 'Shingfield/Ketteringham resident in 1901 but not sure which cottage.

There are 27 households on Low Common, Great Ellingham in the 1851 census. HO107/1823 Folio 123 Page 2 is the starting page.

I can see 5 households in Low Common in 1901 and also another 7 in Swamp Lane (look at the page before the Shingfield household)

Low Common: Warren, Durgan, Dye, Mathews + Grice, Osborne

Swamp Lane: Houcher, Bush, Banham, Dixon, Fox, Walker, Shingfield + Hetherington

Are you looking for someone in particular?

To get an idea of the order of the households along Swamp Lane in 1901 you can count back from the Queens Head which is on Attleborough Road. It looks like Shingfield was the first along Swamp Lane from there, then Walker, then Fox and so on.
