Death of Mabel Alice Barker
« on: Monday 06 July 15 15:25 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone fine a date of death for Mabel Alice Barker. She was born 18 July 1904 to Robert Barker and Isabella Barker nee Smith. The last information I have of her is an address in 1951 at Cotleigh Rd Hampstead.I don't think she married although her sister Laura May married well into her 40's in York to Andrew Maxton.
The sisters both worked in the secretarial dept. of Weldon Patterns.
I really hope someone can help,I've been searching for many years for this record
Thank you

I see that she was with her (presumably widowed?) mother Isabella in the 1951 electoral roll.  Do you know when Isabella died?  Mabel may be the informant which would enable you to place her later on.  I wonder whether Mabel left London once both parents were deceased?

Do you have dates for when she would have been at Weldon's Patterns and an idea of where their office would have been?

A death for Isabella Barker aged 79 in Greenwich, Mar qtr 1959 looks a possibility for the mother, consistent with her age in earlier records.

Hellio
Thanks everyone for your replies
I have Isabella's death in Hove 1953.I think this must have been the daughter's Laura's area as I have her now married Laura Maxton who in 1959 was living at 59 BrunswickSq. Hove.Whether she was just visiting when she died I'm not sure but Laura was the informant at her fathers death in 1959 St Nicholas Hospital Plumstead.Laura's address is still the same in Hove.
I can only find Mabel in the 1939 Electoral Rolls living with sister Laura in Foolscroy Rd SE London.
I know the two sisters visited Canada in the 1920's but returned,I cant find any other migration for Mabel but Laura emigrates to Australia in 1968

Ah - so according to that thread, following Mabel's last electoral roll appearance in Hampstead in 1951, in December of that year she may have been heading home from Canada to a York address.

I see that Laura and Mabel had travelled together to Canada much earlier - in 1929 (travelling to the YWCA in Toronto).

I had a look at the Australian Electoral registers and there's a Mabel Alice Barker listed in the same state as her sister but no way of knowing if this is the same Mabel.

There's no obvious death in any of the indexes with the exact date of birth quoted so

she died in England & Wales before 1969 when dates of birth were introduced to the index

she died after 1969 but an incorrect date of birth has been given

She was still alive in England & Wales in 2007, the latest death data available, there are several people over 100 years, see here

http://oldestinbritain.nfshost.com/living.php

and may have died between 2007 and now

she emigrated to Australia to be near her sister

She emigrated somewhere else and could be anywhere in the world

Hi
Like you say she could be anywhere with such a common name,I just have a feeling she died in London.
I've just found her on 1961 Electoral Roll on her own in the house where her father lived until his death. Laura was living in Hove at this time but mabel could have gone to Australia I have Mabel's Birth Certificate but there's nothing to say she used this.Laura knocked 8 years of her age when she married.
I was just hopeful that another pair of eyes might spot something I had missed.
Thank you for your input anyway
