Reillys/Maguires in Drumdarten
« on: Monday 06 July 15 21:29 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the family of my Irish grandmother, Margaret (Maggie) Reilly.  I believe I have her birth certificate, which states that she is the daughter of JOHN REILLY and ANNE MAGUIRE.  She was born on 24 Feb. 1877.  The certificate states the registrar's district as Bawnboy, and the birth was registered in the district of Ballinamore in the county of Co. Leitrim.  Maggie married John Andrew Brady and lived as a farmer's wife in Carn, Kildallan, County Cavan until her death from tuberculosis at age 40 on 18th May, 1917.  She had a brother, John, mentioned on her death certificate.
I have looked for Drumdarten in the Census records but it doesn't seem to be there.  Could it have another name?  I also thought that Bawnboy and Ballinamore were in county Cavan.  Does anybody have information about these Reillys/Maguires of Drumdarten or where I should be looking in the Census?  Thanks.

There's a townland called Drumdarten Glebe in Oughteragh civil parish, Ballybawn Poor Law Union/registration district.

In 1901 its called Drumdarkan- 1 Reilly family there
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Leitrim/Riverstown/Drumdarkan/

In 1911 also Drumdarkan-

Ballinamore is in Leitrim but the Registration District of Bawnboy serves part of both counties.
See here http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Ireland-civil-registration.html

Edit to fix county name.

Hi, aghadowey....I couldn't find the same family in 1911...and the mother Anne would be too young to be the mother of those earlier births...unless her age is wrong on census. Too bad there is always so little to go on...

Anne is age 55 so born c1846 which would have made her around 18 years old for the 1st birth in 1864

ah! Good one!!! For some reason my memory was telling me she was 50? ...Hadn't looked for Anne in 1911 yet, was still looking for the youngest children to still be in household...How nice that one can see the signature of the head of household on the original copy. bawnboy being the "poor Law Union"

Thomas & Anne in 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Leitrim/Creaghglass/Drumdartan_Glebe/646434/
Might be birth reg for Francis James Reilly 1909  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FBPL-JQS
Also for Mary Kate and versions of Ann Mary in Bawnboy

and is this Anna McAweenie age 8 in the 1901, mother not specified * ...Margaret later marries... all Reilly sons in household were single..... ( says on imm. record Ballinamore, Ireland) headed to the U.S in 1909?  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JX1F-56Y

* The other gals were Catherine, Kate ( altho Kate= Katherine, so not sure if there were two) Mary & Mary Anne

I did find this ... but too vague to know if it might be a Reilly of this family.... https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTFS-JG3
I could not see a birth registered for an Anne McAweeney for that time period...Nothing for a McAweeny & Reilly...wonder if she was born out of wedlock and renamed to father's name, but still can't see anything to confirm that either...
