There were a number of  births to the couple including one Thomas Charles STRINGER in 1890. [reg 33942]
He was a carpenter at Lauriston by 1912 and could be the Charles STRINGER, step-brother, listed by Richard as NOK on his Army file.

I googled his name as an easy way to access the war memorial website and your enquiry came up at the top of the page,so I joined rootschat to correspond with you.

Welcome aboard. I guess one question I have is whether there is a Keith Stringer in your family and did he do some labouring work on a South Australian property in the 1940s?

Our family has no connection with South  Australia. The 29th battalion of which my grandfather was an original member was a Victorian battalion but was so decimated that it was disbanded in mid 1918 and merged with the 32nd battalion a South Australian battalion and this is where our relatives came together.

Yes, correct. I was aware the 29th Battalion merged with the 32nd in 1918 but our family wondered whether our relatives remained in contact following the war and subsequently my grandfather hiring "Keith Stringer" (we thought possibly a relative of your grandfather). At this stage there doesn't appear to be any evidence that they had anything to do with each other following the war and it's probably pure coincidence that the labourer had the same surname. Keith Stringer is more likely to be related to the South Australian STRINGER family(ies) (well known in South Aussie Rules Football circles).
It would have made a great story if there had been a connection!
