Lost Cousin Peter Headifen NYCity,USA
« on: Friday 10 July 15 20:27 BST (UK) »
 Hi Shellyesq;

I am hoping you can shed some light where I might find this lost relative, quite a few ofthem
with the same last name emmigrated to USA, beginning 1800's I think they all came from
N/Ireland,and after about 1850 my side of the family came over from Glasgow Scotland and
all settled in New York City area and New Jersey.

I found this Peter Headifen and spouse Isabella ?? arrived  in NYCity aboard the ship "Harmonia"
in 1852,they stated their status as from Great Britian.I know from finding some others they would
state same with Scotch/Irish added. So I'm wondering if you can point me in the direction of where
to look for the ship,s passenger list. Also their occupation, possible address on arrival or going to
another family member  Peter gave his age as 27yrs and Isabella as 24yrs,also wondering if any
children were with them.

Would appreciate very much your input on this puzzle,,,thanks a bunch.

Kind regards

Janey; :)

The passenger list is here - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:275H-VKL

The earlier passenger lists don't have much detail.

On the passenger list, he's called a machinist.  I haven't found him yet in the 1860 census but there is a plausible Peter Headifen, machinist, in 1870 [New Jersey] and in 1880 [New York].  However, his wife is much younger and her name was Elizabeth, not Isabella.  There were three children.

Maybe Isabella died and he remarried.  I'll look around.

Elisabeth, Lillian and Louis Headifen in 1892 NY state census.  Peter evidently died before 1892.

There is a 1892 newspaper article about Elizabeth receiving an insurance policy on Louis' death on www.fultonhistory.com.  It mentions that Peter lost his job when his son was 11, which affected his mind and he spent the last 9 months of his life in an asylum.  It says Peter died 3 years ago.
