Murtagh of Killashe Co Longford
« on: Sunday 12 July 15 17:44 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm looking for any info on my great grandparents, John and Anne Murtagh (nee Wright ). And there children were Emily (my grandmother) married James Heuston, Marie, John, George, William, Robert, John. I believe Marie married a Mr Black and went to Dublin, so I'm told but not too sure if this was true. I don't know any details on Anne and John's sons. Did they marry? Oh yes I forgot to mention they family were Church of Ireland.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Regards Elizabeth.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Rather silly of me I have amended my post, to read Church of Ireland.

As well as the family's religion you need to include dates (even estimates would help) to make it easier to find information or suggest where you can look next.

Here's the family in the 1911 census living in Moygh-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Longford/Killashee/Moygh/587261

John Murtagh (c1863-1941) m. Ann (c1862-1949)
1. Emily M. (c1894) Margaret Emily 1894
2. Maria (c1896) Maria 1895
3. William J. (c1898) c1901-1950 William James 1897
4. John (c1901) c1897-1977
5. Robert A. (c1904) c1903-1969 Robert Albert 1903
6. George A. (c1909) c1908-1984 George Arthur 1908

Red details from gravestone, purple from civil registration index

Emily Murtagh m.(1928 Longford) James Houston
Possible marriage (based only on name)- William James Murtagh 1944 Delvin registration district

It might be difficult to get records online for the period you need (no census records, too many possiblities in civil index, etc.).
Have you tried the following- cemetery records? newspaper death notices? church records? Wills?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Yes this is my family... Emily married James Heuston/Houston my grandparents.
I don't know any details on Marie. They were Church of Ireland as mentioned above not Catholic.
I only have details from the Irish Census,
Any other information would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
