The LNER didn't come into being until 1923.  Before that date (and living in Grantham) he would most likely have worked for the Great Northern Railway. :)

Thank you for pointing that out, just shows you cannot always depend on transcriptions.

The original image shows LNER, Return of Staff as at 31 Oct 1939 at Grantham Passenger Station. So he was employed by LNER but not until later in his career.
