Can anyone help me ? I'm trying to find if a second marriage was bigamous or not . How does someone find if someone was divorced or not. It would be between 1915 to 1921.

Search:

1. In Ancestry's database "UK Civil Divorce Records 1858-1914", if you have access.
2. In the National Archives' Discovery catalogue (advanced search), entering a relevant name and specifying reference J77.  This method will give index details only for the relevant file, if there is one.

There is a government building in High Holborn London   HM Courts and Tribunals  I think it is its current name. Look them up at their web site.

You can ask them to search for a divorce record, but it will cost you a certain fee.

For the date range quoted, use the National Archives search in J77

HMCTS should onlybe used after 1937 and if you have money to spare. A 10 year search cost £65

Also check local newspapers, some cases were newsworthy enough.
