Lieu Col Robert George Gale DSO RAMC
« on: Thursday 23 July 15 12:12 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I have a query on this gentleman and I am not sure if anyone can give me a definitive answer.
I received a Medical Medal dated 1909 from a lady in Kent, England. There was also a Shepherd Memorial Medal for Surgery, Uni of Aberdeen, this may not have any relation to the other. Her father collected Medals as a hobby and after he passed, she decided to try and find the families. Because the 1909 medal had a name, it arrived to me in Australia. The other though has no name. My question is, is there someone who can research Robert George Gale for me and see if he was awarded the Shepherd Medal. I know he Graduated from Glasgow Uni, I have emailed them regarding his details and am just waiting on a reply. Whether that works I don't know.
Jan.

The Shepherd Memorial Gold Medal For Systematic and Practical Surgery for 1909 was awarded to John D Fiddes (Aberdeen Journal 7 April 1909). Will check other years

From what I can gather the Shepherd Gold Medal is an essay prize awarded to 4th year med students. When was Robert Gale in his 4th year?

If 4th year is graduation, 1909.

We know he didn't win it in 1909

1908 was James Watt
1907 was Alex Skinner and Walter Dilling
1906 was William M'Kerrow
1905 was Alexander Dawson

Looks like it wasn't Robert Gale's medal.

Okay Thankyou for your searching, just wanted to make sure before I presented this medal to his grand-daughter.
