« on: Thursday 23 July 15 21:40 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor who was christened in Kidderminster , Worcs in 1780. Can anyone tell me a church that would have been in existence then. Also is there a place called Tadnan/Tadnam close by? Thanks.

It`s difficult without knowing the source you obtained the record from.  For example FamilySearch rarely names the actual Parish Church in its records, but will name other churches within the Parish. I would imagine in the time frame it would be St. Marys, but I`d be guessing.  Could you possibly tell us the name of your ancestor?

Hi Brit,

In everybody's collection of useful sites should be GENUKI - http://www.genuki.org.uk/index.php - GENealogy UK and Ireland.  It contains a  list of parishes.  Nearest Worcestershire fit is Tenbury.  However, your place may be a hamlet within a parish.

Adding on to Mosiefish's useful comments, besides church buildings there were Independent Chapels and Meeting Houses to be considered.

Thankyou Mosiefish and Yegvard   for your answers. I did get the christening from family search but it seems to tie in with other family. My ancestor is William Bradley christened 8 Sept 1780 Kidderminster, Worcs but born in Tadnan, Glos. Cannot find any Tadnan or anything like it in either county. His parents were Samuel and Elizabeth Jevins/Jovens.
I will hopefully be going to the UK later this year and would like to get a little more confirmation before I start.
Thanks, Brit

Hi Brit,

I checked the film number and it was St. Marys, Kidderminster.

The only place I can think of for Tadnam is Todenham,  The image on the 1861 definitely ends in an m not an n as transcribed.

Thankyou Mo,
Checked and Todenham is near Moreton in the marsh a place I like. Will add to my list of places to go to when next in the UK. Will close this request out. Brit

Hi Brit

There are several churches in Kidderminster, but as for your place close by Ive never heard of it & I used to live in Kidderminster & know the county fairly well - the only parishes in the whole of Worcestershire starting with a T are Tardebigge, Teddington, Tenbury, Throckmorton, Tibberton, Tidmington & Tredington

All the very best
