Is there a primer on how to pronounce Welsh names?  I tried to read Sharon Penman's historical novels on Wales but was put off because my Anglo-Saxon trained mind could not wrap itself around the written Welsh words.

Just to go back to the original question.   The Welsh language  has a different alphabet  from the 26 letters in the English language.

Sorry to jump in here but !

Dynion is pronounced     as dunny.     There fore   it is  95%    probable   that      the Welsh word  Dynion   as passed into the Australian language..   Just as many Indian and Arabic words    have been imported to the UK.   Dynion is on the door of Gentlemens Toilets in WALES

and you will find merched on the Ladies toilets in Wales.......
also dynion is not pronounced as dunny as the a last letter of n is quite clearly pronounced.  I'm not very good at writing out pronounciation here is how it is pronounced .....DUN YO NNNN definitely no y or i at the end.

By the way I am a native welsh speaker and live in an area where welsh is predominantly spoken by the populace.
