Obit/death record lookup
« on: Friday 24 July 15 22:38 BST (UK) »
Would any kind person be able to search for the death notice or obit of John D Cochrane who died in Clinton Indiana May 15 1913, living with family at the time, so there may have been one in his home of Milwaukee,Wisconsin. Any help no matter how little would be appreciated and gratefully received. Thank you in advance

In the Logansport Indiana Pharos Reporter from May 16, 1913, it says "The body of John Cochrane, who died at Longcliff Hospital last evening, will be taken to Lansing, Mich. Saturday for burial."

It looks like he died in Clinton Township in Cass County, according to this death index - http://incass-inmiami.org/cass/vitals/death/cer-cok.html

Apparently, Clinton Township, Indiana is not the same as Clinton, Indiana
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_Township,_Cass_County,_Indiana
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton,_Indiana
That has the potential for being confusing!   ;)

The hospital in question appears to have been a hospital for the insane - http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php?title=Logansport_State_Hospital

Hi Shelley, thank you again...yes it is quite confusing and I'm going to have to look into this a bit further..I would like to get the death notice. Apparently he was living with his family the Learmans according th the 1910 census and he would have only been 62 at time of death and not 82 as he was born Scotland 1852. thank you again for your time it is much appreciated. MARILYN

Another transcription of the death index on a subscription site says that he was 62, so maybe the age 82 was due to misreading the source material.
