James and Elizabeth Olley
« on: Sunday 26 July 15 13:27 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me... my 4x Great Grandparents and family are being very elusive.. James Olley was born abt 1801 in Skeyton and his wife Elizabeth Olley nee Storey was born abt 1811 in Skeyton.
I have found their marriage also in Skeyton 2nd Aug 1829 and I have found them in the 1841 census still living in Skeyton. In the 1851 census I have found Elizabeth and their children (James, William, Mariah and Sarah Ann) in Skeyton but no James and she is listed as wife not widow... After that the trail goes cold.. I cannot find Elizabeth or James on any other censuses.. I suppose they could have died but I have struggled to find a record of this.. I would be extremely grateful for any help 😊

Possible death for James. Skeyton comes under the Aylsham registration district. This would fit with him not being with the family in 1851.

Skeyton Parish Records
James Olley married Elizabeth Storey 25 May 1830 at Skeyton witness Barbary Storey and Henry Bird. Henry Bird possibly the parish clerk as he signs just about every entry.
The banns were read 28 December 1829, 4 and 11 January 1830.
Baptism, with parents James Olley and Elizabeth Storey
James   17 October 1830
Mary   2 September 1832
William 5 April 1835
Maria 9 August 1840
Sarah Ann 9 November 1845
George 12 August 1849, born 10 July 1849, buried 30 July 1850 age 1

The son James married Frances Whitwood 11 March 1854 at Skeyton he lists his father as James Olley, labourer, it does not say deceased, so I believe he was still alive In 1854.

James and Elizabeth Olley are my 4 x great grandparents too.

Unfortunately I can't shed anymore light on them though. Although there is a James Olley buried in Trimingham in 1878, aged 79, but I can't find an Elizabeth Olley buried there too. I know there is still Olley's living in Trimingham today :)

Scrap that idea of the James Olley buried in Trimingham. He appears in the 1871 Census with his wife Susan. Back to the drawing board.
