It seems likely both James and Elizabeth died before 1861.

Son William marries 28 April 1859 Marylebone to Caroline Tyler/Tylor, gives his father as James a labourer, does not say deceased though, but if they didn't ask if he were still living!
William says he is a private soldier. 1861 he is in Camberwell, 1871 a coachman in Herts.

Daughter Maria in 1861 transcribed on ancestry as Maria Elley is living with her sister Mary Woodhouse in Plumstead. Mary Olley married John Woodhouse 1851.
1871 census she is a servant in Alysham with 2 children although still single.

Daughter Sarah Ann as previously listed in 1861 is also away from home and a servant.

If both had become ill what would be the nearest hospital/workhouse, it might put them in a different registration district.

Last sightings of James in Skeyton...
Baptism of son George, 12 August 1849, Skeyton

Note in the margin says George was buried 30 July 1850
As he was, age 1, son of James + Elizabeth Olley
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6P1K-S1?i=639&cc=1416598&cat=1000331

A Skeyton church rate for 1850 has James Olley listed
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6P1V-22?i=771&cat=1000336

Have you eliminated the 1853 death in Erpingham district?
Dec 1853 Erpingham 4b 35
Olley, James
age 55

That chap was buried in Barningham Town, 15 December. No other Olley burials seem to be indexed there.

Meanwhile, son James marries Frances in Skeyton in 1854
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6P1V-JC?i=569&cc=1416598&cat=1000331

Could also check for any possibility of a remarriage of Elizabeth.

Daughter Maria in 1861 transcribed on ancestry as Maria Elley is living with her sister Mary Woodhouse in Plumstead. Mary Olley married John Woodhouse 1851.

Better then mention the James Olley in Plumstead in 1851.
Piece 1809 folio 614 page 5

He is lodging with William + Susanna Howlett.
James Olley, 44, Married, Gamekeeper, born Suffield Norfolk.

The only baptism possibility in Suffield that I can find is..
19 May 1799
James, base born son of Ann Holley

Plumstead is very close to Barningham, neither are that far from Skeyton. If the age of that James in Plumstead is out, could he be the chap missing from Skeyton? Who was a rounded 40 in 1841.

I'm not sure that the Woodhouse - Olley marriage is online.
But it was at Plumstead.
Banns called there for the marriage between John Woodhouse + Mary Olley (says "both of this parish")
2, 9, 16 November 1851
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DRS9-TPX?i=32&cc=1416598&cat=462378

If he is the John Woodhouse, 21, in Plumstead in 1851, son of Samuel, then he is three census pages before James Olley.

I wondered if there were ever any Olley (or variants!) burials at Plumstead.
There seem to be two indexed.
Sarah Ann Olley, buried 12 March 1861. Age 4 months, abode West Beckham
Looks like her birth may have been registered Dec 1860, Erpingham, with a dash for mother's maiden name in the new GRO index.

The other one is
Mary Olley, buried 2 February 1860. Age 48, abode Plumstead.
And her death registration is March 1860, Erpingham, vol 4b page 46.

Samuel Woodhouse, likely father of John, may have died in a dreadful accident just after the 1851 census was taken. Buried at Plumstead, 17 May 1851, age 48.

Hi jonw65,

Thank you for all your help!

I'm followed up on the James Holley baptism, Ann Holley the mother was baptised at Suffield in 1782, I'm going to look into her and see what I can find.

She also had a daughter called Maria, who was buried at Suffield a few months before James was baptised, but I haven't found a baptism for her yet.

Thank you again!

Kirsty

I’m now trying to work on Elizabeth. I’ve ruled out the Marriages and Deaths in norfolk between 1851 and 1861 and now I’m a little stumped  ???
