Capon/Beaumont/Pinkney families - Ipswich area
« on: Sunday 26 July 15 18:34 BST (UK) »
I have James Capon married to Marie Catherine Beaumont in 1825 Saint Matthew, Ipswich, Suffolk, their daughter was named Emma Pinkney Capon b1826 (two others James and Maria).

So I decided to see what I might find using the names Beaumont and Pinkney. I found a George Beaumont married to Catherine Pinkney in 1782 Ipswich, but I haven't been able to find any children or link Marie Catherine to them.

I wonder if anyone might be able to cast any light on the subject!

Thanks for looking, amondg :)

I was hoping to find a link with Maria Beaumont to the Pinkney family.
Flixton on Bungay seems a long way from Ipswich when there is George B and Catherine Pinkney in Ipswich, but guess as I haven't heard anything there's nothing on record :(

The trees are definitely wrong!   The Maria Beaumont (plain Maria) b.1800 Flixton by Bungay was buried there aged 3 on 15/6/1803!!!

According to her burial entry in 1847 Maria Catherine was born c.1805.

For some reason, few Ipswich baptisms are online pre. 1812 which doesn't help.

Also tried to find her in 1841 to confirm whether she was born in Suffolk or not but cannot locate her.  If she was indeed born circa 1805 I'm not sure that George and Catherine would be her parents as George appears to have died in 1797 (Catherine in 1840).    I think they could have been her grandparents and that they possibly had a son George ca.1783 - a George Beaumont married an Ann Gowing 4/12/1804 St. Mary Elms, Ipswich and he was a widower when married again to Jane Moutell 10/8/1836 St. Margaret, Ipswich.   In 1841 he and Jane have with them James Capon aged 13!!

So, think you need to look for birth of a George Beaumont ca.1783 (probably to George and Catherine) and Maria Catherine ca.1805 almost certainly daughter of George and first wife Ann.

Annette 7,
I got very excited when I found James Capon living with George Beaumont but I also have him in 1840 living with Mary (whom I assumed was Maria) as the age was right and she's a widow plus two siblings!
I'll take a look along the lines you suggest - thanks :)

There only seems to have been one James bc.1828 Ipswich - I think it was simply a case of Maria (Mary) giving details of her family to the enumerator and then on the actual census night James had actually been with his grandfather thus getting recorded twice.   This often happened believe me.

It's just so frustrating that most of the Ipswich parish records are not online for the times in question.

Spent all morning trying to find links - better than doing the housework, except haven't got anywhere  ;)

There seems to be another James Capon of the same date but he's further north in the Plomesgate Union area which is where Maria Capon's daughter, Emma's husbands family hailed from around Framingham.

Looking on maps and googling the two streets it would seem that they were close by

Until you can locate the baptisms you need (which alas are not online) I don't think you can get any further with this right now.

There were a fair number of churches in Ipswich and only a handful have baptisms online unfortunately.
