Hello Ian

Does one dare to believe that you have located Hans family???  :) The names look fantastic especially as one of Hans & Mary's sons was Nommel John & one of their daughters Wibecker Mary.

You asked in an earlier post where I got his parents names from and really it was a process of elimination and naming protocols.

Hans married an Irish woman and many of the names are distinctly Irish; the remaining names seemed to me to be Danish; couple this with the fact some of the children were named after significant Irish ancestors so it seemed logical to play with the idea the similar method applied to the Danish names.

Will follow your finds Ian and see where they take me.

A PM on its way.

Westy

.... and then the question..... where did you find the surname Hanson as her surname was actually Hans. Very close I must say.
Looking at the spelling of his daughter's name Wibcker, it is almost the same as his mother's spelling.

Hans was recorded as a sailor and was recorded as at sea at the time of this census which coincides nicely with him being on the Hanseat.

I think this is him.

Thank you for the PM.

Now that is a very interesting question as to where I derived the name of Hanson and really I cannot remember.  I will dig around in my notes and see if I can find my rationale.  ???

Perhaps it was a process of elimination but off hand the 'little grey cells' are failing me ;D

I meant also to thank you for understanding the issues around being either Danish or German; as I said for me its no issue but it seems it may have been for Hans.

So far I have not been able to locate that Family tree you mentioned.

Hello Ian,

Hope you are well.

Do you or does anyone understand what the following means?  It was listed in the 1803 Census against Margareta's name "Housewife lives from room craft , which she has continued after her husband's death by journeyman" ???

Thanks

Westy

Hi Westy,
I'm fine thank you.

I asked a German work colleague to help out.

"Housewife is living off the carpenter workshop which she has continued after her husband's death with help of his journeyman."

My thanks to your German friend please.

That makes so much sense Ian.

Thanks so much to you as always....  PS I think I may well be able to get to that place I promised some time ago toward the end of this year.
