The Lysaghts of Limerick
« on: Wednesday 29 July 15 18:19 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have recently been searching for some info on an early Irish family, some of whose members appear to have been living in County Limerick circa 1880. The family name is Lysaght and, unfortunately, there were a lot of them living in south-west Ireland in the latter half of the nineteenth century.

So far I have only managed to find the first name of two members of the branch of the family I'm interested in – Edward Lysaght and his brother William, sometimes listed as "W.C. Lysaght". The brothers had at least one sister, a "Miss M. Lysaght".

I would be grateful for any help in tracking down any information on the above three members of this particular Lysaght family.

Thanks,

J.

Note: It's possible that the "Miss M. Lysaght" in question might have been Mary.

Hello J,

Where in Limerick do you have these people c 1880?

Where did you find the names of the brothers - the context may help.

Do you have approximate years of birth?

regards
Heywood

There's a thread here about some Co Clare Lysaghts.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=576296.msg5706454#msg5706454

Do any of them ring any bells?

In newspapers there's a William Lysaght of Laurel Hill, Limerick.   Any connection?   If he also a JP?

This could be him - William Conner Lysaght.
"One of the sons of Catherine Royse and William Lysaght was James Lysaght, noted as being of Malahide, but who also bought Carrigmore near Dunmanway, Co. Cork, which had previously been known as Connerville, the seat of the Conners.   James Lysaght married twice, first to a possible cousin, Miss Royse, by whom he had the Rev. Edward Lysaght who later married Mary Conner of Manch, and secondly in 1847 at Edinburgh to Adelaide Janetta Douglas, the widowed daughter of the ex-Governor of St.Helena, Major-General Beatson.    Another son of James Lysaght of Carrigmore was William Lysaght, JP of Cork, who married Eliza Jane Connor, the daughter of Daniel Conner of Manch, and who had Wiliam Conner Lysaght on 8th March 1861 while living at Laurel Hill Avenue, Limerick, and then Edward Longfield Lysaght on 24th December 1862; son William Conner Lysaght, assistant medical officer with the Royal Infirmiary, died at 13 Frederick Place, Clifton, Bristol, on 24th July 1887, and who was survived by his widow, Mary Lysaght of 7 Vyvyan Terrace, Bristol."

Hi,

Thanks for the link. I don't think the Lysaghts I'm looking for are featured in the thread in question. My main original source for the little information I have on them was "The Irish Times" from circa 1880-85. Unfortunately, it rarely listed their first names.

Why would they be in the Irish Times during that time? Was it an obituary; a scandal; imprisonment; a marriage; a will?
This is similar to your last thread. You are giving no hints for people to help you Joseph.
Have you checked the censuses? Would they still be living in 1901 and 1911.
Was the family Roman Catholic?

Maybe your man

Edward Montiford Longfield Lysaght of  Travancore, India, died 1910 in Middlesex.
Administration to Elizabeth Ann Malet wife of Allan Arthur Granville Malet.
It would seem that she was Elizabeth Lysaght, daughter of William.
