My great grandparents are buried in the Cemetary in Bathgate Scotland. My great grandfather Hugh Gillespie dob 1860 died 13/10/1937 and great grandmother Helen (McKillop)Gillespie dob 1859 died 23rd Feb 1934.  I believe the plot was bought under the name of Glasgow or McGeachie.  I would appreciate if anyone can advise me how I can find the plot were they are buried and I believe there is no headstone on the grave.  I am going up to Scotland and it would be nice to see were they are buried.

A relative previously visited the graveyard with my grandmother but all she told me was that it was in Bathgate.  I know the dates of birth and death are correct and that they were Catholic.

Annie,

Does it give places where each died.......area of Bathgate  ???

I imagine (my own thought) they are probably buried wherever the 1st died in nearest cemetery ???

When you find where that is........if it's a Churchyard (Catholic) although not necessarily Catholic, you could possibly send an email with all the info. you have & take it from there  :-\

Hi Annie
They lived in Bathgate when they came over from Ireland and then eventually settled in Glasgow.  That's why the plot was bought in a relatives name as they wanted to be buried in Bathgate.  I will send an email to all the cemeteries in Bathgate and see if I can come up with anything.  Thanks for trying to help.

Hi Annie

Without a headstone, your ancestors won't be listed here but, in Memento Mori for Bathgate Paulsville Cemetery there is an Ellen Gillespie who died in 1918 listed:
http://www.memento-mori.co.uk/115.pdf
None of the other Bathgate cemeteries on this site have any Gillespies of McKillops.

I had a similar problem of an unmarked grave and contacted the local authority who very helpfully identified the exact spot. The local authority for Bathgate is West Lothian Council. If you have a look at this page, all the cemeteries and crematoria are listed as well as a contact email.
http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/article/5478/Locations-of-Cemeteries-and-the-Crematorium
It might be worth sending an email with details of names and possible location to them in case they are able to help.

Hope you find them.

Annie,

The whole point of the question re census etc. was to try & establish/identify where in Bathgate they lived, to try & locate the most likely cemetery  ???

Glad CS has given you some good advice  ;)
