Mounsey
« on: Wednesday 29 July 15 22:22 BST (UK) »
I am helping a friend research their family. The Mounseys came from Dacre in Cumberland.I've managed to get back to the 1760s.My friend told me that,he was told by his gran, that,in the 1600s the Mounseys were Royalty.
Could it be that they were big land owners back then?or kings of an area before England became a single kingdom?
   Any help comments please.

England became united under one King well before William the Conqueror in 1066! ;D

A quick Google search finds claims the the Monsey family came over with the Normans, as Monceaux.
Hammond Monceaux was Sheriff of Cumberland in 1290.
Waler de Muncey, 1st Baron Muncey was summoned to Parliament and was granted a peerage in 1299.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)
