Maternal grandmother
« on: Thursday 30 July 15 15:19 BST (UK) »
My maternal grandmother, Mary Kenyon, was illegitimate, born in 1879 to Jane Kenyon.  I have the home addressof the birth in Wavertree, Liverpool.  Mary was brought up by a neighbouring family.  I would love to find out any information on Jane but have no idea how to go about it - any suggestions would be very welcome please.  Thank you!

Hi,

Have you traced Jane on any census which would give her age & occupation & are the census consistent with age, where she was born & lived as you may find a marriage in the same area  :-\

My great grandmother was illegitimate. She was brought up by her grandparents and I spent ages searching for her mother. Then she was found - next door under her new married name! I would definitely check for a marriage!

How certain are you of the age? I ask because in 1881 there's a Mary Kenyon b Wavertree, as a boarder at Wellington Rd, Railway view, with the Storrie family, - but the age there is down as 10 months. Haven't managed to find any other in 1881, yet.

Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

I see from an old thread that Jane appears to have been still in touch as Jane Kenyon in 1902:

I wonder if Jane had originally came over from Ireland to have Mary  ???

Possibly returned to Ireland & had been back over to Liverpool visiting in 1902  :-\

She'd need to be quite a bit older to have had Mary in 1879-80 :)
