George Harry Dunn Warwickshire
« on: Tuesday 04 August 15 21:02 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find more information on my great grandad? His name was George Harry Dunn. I don't know his birth year but presumably around 1885. I believe his wife, Eugenie Maggie Taylor, was born in 1886. They were married in Warwick on 1915 and had 3 children. He died on June 15, 1970 in the Warwick Asylum. All I can find of him on Ancestry is his marriage index and the Trades Directory which tells his trade and his address. I originally thought I had the right man but followed the wrong line so I'm starting over. There's a chance he was adopted within his own family. Any information or tips on how to find more information would be greatly appreciated.

Have you applied for his marriage certificate to see if there is information about his Father?

Added:
Are you sure of that date of death?

I just checked the telegram informing of his death. It was June 15, 1972. So it could be that one. My grandad's marriage certificate and birth certificate list George has George Harry Dunn. Could he have been using the informal version of Henry?

I haven't ordered a marriage certificate just yet because I can't spend the money unless I absolutely have to.

If that is his death, and the birth age recorded there is correct - can you see his birth anywhere, or him in the censuses?

Added: Henry/Harry interchangeable often.

What was his occupation on his son's marriage certificate?

I haven't been able to find anything that is definitely him. I found a baptism for a George Dunn. May 7, 1884 in Lye, Worcester to a Henry Thomas Dunn and Martha Dunn. I don't think that's anything though.

There's also a 1911 Census for George Henry Dunn. Born 1883 in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Locomotive Engine Stoker. Father William Dunn. Mother Mary Dunn. This one has more potential because of the birth year and the occupation.

His marriage certificate would help to confirm correct family(father), or disprove.
