Asked to find adopted son born in the 1960s
« on: Thursday 06 August 15 19:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,

As the family historian, I have been informally asked by my aunt and cousin if I could trace the whereabouts of my aunt's son. He was born around 1966 and given up for adoption around 3-5 years of age.

Firstly, I don't know the ethics of undertaking this and second, where would I start, and finally what would I do if I found him?

I would say it is outside your knowledge/expertise ( you are used to tracing dead people!) and recommend your aunt adds herself to the Adoption contact register or whatever it is called that will notify her if the son ever comes looking

Too many potential pitfalls & complications otherwise
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all
