Date of photo and age of Waterhouse woman

Can anyone give me an approx date for this photo, and also guess at the age of the woman?

It will help me sort out who she is.

She could have been born before 1800.

Mary born 1815, died 1904
Sarah born 1789, died 1863

Hard to know whether she's Mary or Sarah as you don't tell us when the photo was taken.

From her wrinkled hands I'd say she's at least late 70s if not into her 80s.

Thats because I don't know when it was taken -- i was hoping someone might be able to give an approx date from the clothes she's wearing etc to give me more of a clue of who she might be

It was in with lots of other family photos when we cleared my MIL's house a few years back. We are fairly certain of the identification of most of them, but this one is a puzzle

Hopefully Jim or China will be around soon to give you a thought about date.  I've packed my dating books . . .but it is after the days of huge crinolines I think.  So after 1860s - I think!

any connection with the Waterhouse racing fraternity out in Australia?

One of my Blue family is reputed to have married a Waterhouse but I don't know any details.

Sorry, no.
My husband's Waterhouse family are all from the Hayfield / Chinley area of Derbyshire.
Of course some distant connection may have emigrated to Australia but I am not aware of any.
