Could someone please tell me, can anyone go to Kingswood records centre and photograph records for free? Do I need any ID.  I'm looking for parents birth and death certs etc. and will be in the area in a couple of weeks.

Cheers

Hi Stephen,
Yes anyone can go but you will need some ID to obtain a reader's ticket if you wish to order any records to look at.   You can obtain a reader's ticket online beforehand or organise once you are there.

However you won't be able to see birth, marriage, death records, as they are held at the BDM registry (and members of public are not allowed here - only authorised transcription agents)  They are some historic BMD's on microfilm at Kingswood, sorted by denomination and within that by name of church, and within that by date.   You are not allowed to take digital copies of these.

adding : I go to the Kingswood Record centre in Sydney about once a month to take photos of probate files, divorces, deceased estates etc for rootschatters.  Yes it is free to take photos of any of these.
