Ibizapeter -
There is a William Duncan born in Falkirk 19th Feb 1804 who could and I stress could be a candidate for your man. His father is a John Duncan and his mother a Cecilia Nimmo.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XT23-FLK
William Duncan names his 1st son John (maybe after his father in the true Scottish naming pattern??)
And he gives his daughter the middle name  of Cecilia (not a very common name)
Could be worth investigating the Falkirk people further.

Looby :)

Gee Looby, some very good logical finds there! Very plausible.

Thanx all for the replies so far.
I do have all the details relating to his children and onwards up to date and also some details relating to his wife but cannot get passed William to his early life and parentage. will keep searching.
The report in the local IOM newspaper didn't refer to William's early life only his tragic death and his current family, but I would hope that at some stage I will encounter someone to whom this rings a bell and it will enable me to press on.
This is the first experience of Rootschat and it is uplifting to find so many people who want to help. Thank you all once again.
